This dedicated funding has been provided specifically for sustainable transport and active travel projects. It can only be used for transport improvements and cannot be redirected to other Council services such as education, social care, housing or waste collection.

The proposed improvements aim to make it easier for people to get around, strengthen links between communities, support local businesses and jobs, and create a transport network that is safer, more accessible, reliable and better for the environment.

Four proposals have been developed to address gaps in the current transport network, improve access to important destinations, and give residents more choice in how they travel.

    Proposed Improvements

    1. Palmersville Metro - Connected Stations
Creating better access to the Metro Station for people walking, wheeling and cycling, alongside new controlled crossings to improve road safety.

    2. Foxhunters to Whitley Bay
Providing a safer and more direct route between Foxhunters Roundabout and Whitley Bay Metro Station.

    3. Killingworth Links
Improving connections between Killingworth Town Centre and the wider Waggonway network.

    4. Seaton Burn to Dudley
Enhancing an important local route between Seaton Burn and Dudley, while supporting safer access to North Gosforth Academy.

The investment will help improve access to jobs, education, healthcare, local centres and public transport across North Tyneside. If these projects do not go ahead, the funding cannot be used for other local priorities and would not be available for alternative Council services.

To view the proposals, see visualisations of the improvements and share your views, visit Connecting Communities on Our North Tyneside Voice.
