30 September 2026: Speak with us about the Draft Local Plan

North Tyneside Council is preparing a new Local Plan to guide how the Borough grows and develops up to 2042/43
The Local Plan helps shape planning decisions by setting out where development should take place and what should be protected, including green spaces, wildlife habitats, heritage assets and local communities. It also identifies land for new homes, jobs and infrastructure needed to support future growth.
The Council is required to prepare a Local Plan and must ensure it meets national planning policy requirements, including planning for the homes, employment opportunities and services needed by current and future generations.
Having an up-to-date Local Plan helps the Council manage where development goes while maintaining the character and qualities of local places.
Publication Draft Local Plan Consultation
Following earlier consultations and extensive evidence gathering, the Council has now published the Publication Draft Local Plan.
This is the final stage of consultation before the Plan is submitted to the Government for independent examination by a Planning Inspector.
We are inviting comments on whether the Plan:
- Meets North Tyneside's future needs
- Is supported by appropriate evidence
- Has considered reasonable alternatives
- Can be delivered
- Is consistent with national planning policy
Have Your Say
You can view the Publication Draft Local Plan, supporting documents and consultation materials, and submit your comments via the project page.
