As our Family Fun Days come to an end, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us over the summer. It was fantastic to see so many families taking part, getting active and having fun together across North Tyneside.

Have your say on policing priorities

We know from the Big Community Conversation that residents regularly raise concerns about policing, crime and community safety. Northumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Susan Dungworth, is inviting residents, businesses and community groups to share their views through a short survey to help shape policing priorities for the next two years.

The feedback will help inform a refreshed Police and Crime Plan, ensuring it reflects the issues that matter most to local people.

Mental Health Hub helps at least 600 people since opening

You may remember last year we asked you to vote on the name of a new mental health hub in Wallsend. The hub has now helped more than 600 people experiencing mental health crisis or distress since opening in July 2025. If you need support or know someone who does, the Anchorage is open every day from 2pm to 10pm - find out more on their website.

The need for affordable housing is a key issue that residents frequently highlight through the council's community engagement. We are pleased to announce the delivery of 38 new affordable homes to rent the in Fallow Park Development in Wallsend.

We’re now halfway through the consultation and hundreds of people have already shared their views on what matters most to them, their families and their communities. The feedback we receive will help shape a long-term plan for North Tyneside, setting out a shared vision for the future and helping to influence the decisions that affect us all.

Have your say on the future of North East buses

The North East Mayoral Strategic Authority (MSA) want to know what you think about their plans for better bus services, so they can make the right decisions for local people.

Buses are by far the most used public transport in the North East – people made 115 million journeys in 2024/25 for work, school, health appointments and all sorts of other reasons.

But the bus network has seen long-term decline. Over the past 15 years, passenger numbers and the number of miles operated have both fallen significantly, meaning fewer routes, less frequent services and reduced access in some areas.

They've heard from thousands of people about what matters most for transport, and are now consulting on whether a different approach - known as bus franchising - could create a better bus network for people across the North East.

Whether you use the bus now or not, or might do so if the service changed, they’d like to know what you think of their plans.

How buses are currently run

Bus services in the North East are currently deregulated. This means private bus companies decide routes, timetables, fares and service standards.

An Enhanced Partnership is in place between the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority (North East MSA), local authorities and bus companies. While this allows for joint working, operators still make most key decisions.

This can lead to:

• Complex fares and a wide range of ticket types
• Limited coordination between routes and other transport
• Inconsistent standards across the network
• Limited influence for local communities

Public funding currently supports a significant part of the network, but there is limited public control over how services are planned and delivered.

What's being proposed

North East MSA are consulting on a Bus Franchising Scheme.

Under franchising, the North East MSA would:

• Set routes, timetables and fares
• Decide service standards
• Contract bus operators to run services on its behalf

Bus companies would still run services, but under contract and to agreed standards.

What this could mean for you

The Assessment of the proposed scheme suggests it could lead to:

🎫 Simpler tickets and better value for money

🚌 More consistent routes and timetables, with better connections

🦺 Increased and more consistent safety measures

📍 One place to find journey information

✨ A clear, recognisable network identity

💬 Greater opportunity for local people to have a say

👋 More public control over how services are planned and delivered

It would also mean the North East MSA taking on greater financial responsibility for the network, which would need to be carefully managed.

Have your say on gambling - Partner Consultation

Closing Friday 26 June 2026

The survey is open to anyone aged 18 and over who lives in the North East. It asks about gambling participation, awareness of support services, and attitudes towards gambling, advertising, and strategies to reduce harm. The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete.

The Big Future - Partner Consultation

Closing Friday 23 October 2026

The Big Future is a survey ran by the Children's Commissioner for England, who wants to hear from children and young people about what it's like to be a child today. The survey will ask about what changes young people want to see in their communities, their biggest concerns and hopes for the future. To take part click the above link.

You Said, We Did

Resident views lead to new cleaning service trial

Housing and Property Service invited residents who live in communal blocks managed by North Tyneside Council to share their views on a proposal to trial communal area cleaning. The survey showed residents were in favour and arrangements are now being made to trial this in several blocks.

Council tenant or leaseholder? Lend us your eyes!

Our Housing and Property Service is starting to review more of its written information and we would love some of our tenants and leaseholders to be involved. From time-to-time we'd like to send you early versions of written information for you to let us know if the wording is easy to understand, or if anything doesn't make sense. This could be for a leaflet, handbook, letters, website information, or a new policy. If you'd like to volunteer, please email engagement@northtyneside.gov.uk and we'll be in touch shortly.

Future Founders Event

Are you aged between 15 and 21 and curious about starting your own business? Or know someone who is? Join this Future Founders workshop where you'll learn practical skills and get the chance to pitch your own ideas.

Mayor Meets: Let’s talk transport

Join Mayor Kim McGuinness for a local conversation about transport and safety for women and girls. The session will focus on everyday travel — including buses, Metro and rail — and how services can be safer, more reliable and better connected for work, education and caring responsibilities.

You’ll also hear about plans for bus reform through the Angel Network and share what would make the biggest difference, from travelling after dark to waiting at stops.

Residents told us recycling access in the north west of our borough needs to improve. Following a feasibility study, we’re now moving into the next stage of planning for a new Household Waste and Recycling Centre, including traffic and environmental assessments.

Applications to join the new Pride in Place Percy Main Neighbourhood Board are now live

We’re excited to announce the launch of a brand‑new Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board. Pride in Place is a 10-year investment programme that puts local people at the centre of decisions about their neighbourhood, and we’re inviting residents to apply to be part of the decision making board. This is a fantastic opportunity for people who care about their community to help shape how local funding are used. Members of the Neighbourhood Board will play a key role in overseeing decisions about community funding, setting priorities, and ensuring money is spent where it makes the biggest difference.

What the Neighbourhood Board Will Do

Board members will:

• Live in the Pride in Place funded area
• Care a lot about the Pride in Place funded area and want to make it a better place to live
• Share their views and opinions on what the community wants and needs
• Work well with people who have different views
• Be trusted locally and will gain support from local people, even if this is your first role like this
• Keep discussions respectful and constructive
• Handle disagreement calmly and fairly
• Respect others and make sure everyone is included
• Have enough time to commit to the role
