Date of consultation: 31 January to 2 March 2025 Number of responses: 124 surveys |
Earlier in 2025, our Housing and Property Service was developing a Chargeable Policy. This was to ensure that only appropriate costs, including those for repairs and maintenance of properties, are being met by Housing Services. Other costs, such as costs to repair damage caused by the tenant or leaseholder, house clearance and court costs, would be charged to them.
The policy clarifies the Council's and resident's responsibilities, and outlines the payments that tenants or leaseholders would be responsible for paying to meet the repair, works or additional costs.
The policy will also be proactive in its approach to the prevention of chargeable costs and it is hoped that this will help residents manage their tenancy and help us retain well maintained, safe and affordable properties for all residents.
A summary of the consultation feedback is attached to this page, and you can read the new Chargeable Policy on the North Tyneside Council website: Chargeable Policy
