Proposal to close Monkseaton High School
This is your opportunity to submit your feedback on the proposal to close Monkseaton High School on 31 August 2026.
This statutory consultation follows a six-week pre-publication consultation where the public and organisations were invited to submit viable alternative options for the future of the school.
Analysis and consideration of these responses took place twice a week, and all were reviewed following the consultation closing. This made clear that there are currently no viable options to secure the future of the school.
Unfortunately, the options submitted were options which had previously been considered, were otherwise unviable or required changes which were beyond the control of the Council.
As part of the earlier consultation and decision-making process, officers:
Analysed and considered 921 consultation responses
Considered 325 responses from pupils at Monkseaton High School
Met with all school leaders in the North East Planning Area
In line with the Department for Educations guidelines for consulting on the closure of a school, the Council has now entered a formal representation period.
As part of this, you can share your views on the proposal to close Monkseaton High School.
The feedback received over the next month will be considered by North Tyneside Council’s Cabinet at a meeting on 19 December 2024 to make the final decision.
