We have over 30 invaluable tenant panel volunteers and we really appreciate the time they dedicate to working with us. They review and discuss performance, put forward ideas, ask questions and challenge us to do better.
The panels are well-established, however after a recent self-assessment of our engagement and involvement activities, we realised that we did not offer any formal training to support our panel members. We are committed to supporting our tenant volunteers in their role and are keen for them to be able to participate effectively at our regular meetings. We want them to challenge us, ask questions and effectively scrutinise the Housing and Property Service!
Having asked them for their views, they were overwhelmingly in favour of receiving some formal training - particularly focusing on meeting skills, communication and expressing a point of view with confidence. As a result, we arranged for a day of training focused on these skills, which was delivered by a trainer from the national Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS).
Feedback from the group taking part was excellent and it has been great to see them putting their training into practice at our May round of meetings!
