Tenant Panels
Summer 2024 marked the start of a refreshed approach to our tenant engagement, with the introduction of some new panels to scrutinise the performance of our service.
Being on one of our panels is a great way to learn more about the Housing and Property Service, meet new people and use your voice to influence future services. We're looking for people with a positive outlook, a curiosity to know more and the ability to see things from different points of view. Our panel members work as part of a team, contributing ideas and taking part in discussion.
Tenants who were signed up to the previous Our North Tyneside Voice database last year were invited along to a welcome event in March 2024 to hear about new, more formal opportunities to get involved.
Our Landlord Panel has been formed to ensure we are providing a high quality housing service that meets tenants' needs, is good value for money and meets national and local standards. It provides scrutiny of the service and makes recommendations that will be taken into consideration by decision-makers. The Panel currently comprises of four North Tyneside Council tenants and two councillor Cabinet members. Independent members with relevant experience will be invited to attend, depending on the subjects under discussion.
The North Tyneside Living Panel is for tenants of our independent living accommodation for those aged 60 and over. Each scheme has its own representative and the panel receives updates on satisfaction surveys, performance data and other items of interest.
The Estates and Communities Panel will consider how we provide safe and well-maintained neighbourhoods for our tenants and how we can help tenants feel safe in their homes. It could also cover fair allocation and letting of homes and how tenancies are managed.
Our Repairs and Investment Panel looks at areas including the quality of our housing stock, health and safety issues, maintenance, planned improvements and adaptations.
The Leaseholder Panel will begin later in 2024. It will consider issues relevant only to council leaseholders (for example, someone who has bought a council flat under the Right to Buy scheme but still pays a leasehold fee to the council for building maintenance).
Tenant membership of all our panels is kept under review and may be changed as required to reflect the needs of tenants and/or the Housing and Property Service. Wherever possible, we will seek to make sure the profile of involved tenants is in line with the profile of our tenant population as a whole.
Tenants who have registered on this website will get advance notice of opportunities to join one of our panels, plus all other engagement and consultation news. If you haven't already done so, please register (top right of the screen) so we can let you know when there's a new opportunity to get involved and have your say. You can also let us know you're interested by completing the short survey below.
