Regional Children in Care Council

Who are Regional Children in Care Council?

The Regional Children in Care Council brings together care‑experienced young people from all 12 North East local authority areas. Members meet every few months to use their regional collaborative voice to work towards ensuring young people in care across the North East are heard.

What do they do?

Its role is to amplify the voices of children and young people in care and support them to influence meaningful change. This year, they have been focusing on language and stigma, recognising the impact words can have on how care‑experienced young people are seen and treated.

In May 2026 they attended the Great Start in Life Conference and delivered a session focused on language and stigma in the health system and how important this is when working with care experienced young people. To find out more about the conference, follow the link below!
