Housing and Property Services Kitchens Consultation

We fit around 650 new kitchens per year to council homes as part of our planned investment programme.

The contract with our current supplier is coming to an end and, before we enter into a new contract, we asked our tenants for their views on our future offer.

We currently offer 4 choices for worktops, 5 choices for doors, 3 taps and 2 sinks. Plus multiple options for wall colours, tiles and flooring. This means that our stores must hold stock of each item and our repairs vans must carry the correct fittings for all of them.

Based on what tenants have previously chosen for their new kitchens, we know that some choices are more popular than others. Reducing the choices offered will save space, time and money, which we can in turn invest in other parts of our services for tenants.

This consultation ran during summer 2025 and 204 responses were received. This was combined with data from recent new kitchen choices, meaning feedback was based on choices from over 400 tenants.

The results showed there were clear favourites for each category. These were shared with our Repairs and Investment tenant panel at their meeting in September and the panel agreed to move to the reduced number of choices with the new contact, which is planned to be live from April 2026.

If you haven't already done so, please register on this website so we can keep in touch and let you know when there are other opportunities to have your say in future.
