Neighbourhood and Community Promise

Consultation has concluded

Everyone needs a place to call home — somewhere that feels safe and secure.

Date of consultation: 10 December to 18 January
Number of responses:
37 completed surveys

The Neighbourhood and Community Promise explains how we look after the areas we’re responsible for. We work together with residents, our tenants, partners, and other organisations to help make our neighbourhoods clean, green, safe, and great places to live. This also helps prevent anti-social behaviour, nuisance problems, and crime. By working with local people and groups, we aim to build healthier, fairer neighbourhoods with a better quality of life.

An initial draft of our Promise was developed by our Housing and Property Service with the help of feedback from tenants on our Estates and Communities Panel, Landlord Panel, and Leaseholder Panel; and more widely from the Big Community Conversation survey 2025, Tenant Satisfaction Measures survey 2024, the tenants’ annual event and the tenant drop-in events of 2025.

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey.

  • 37 responses were received, 14 from council tenants and leaseholders
  • 28 respondents agreed the draft Promise was easy to understand, two said it was not
  • Suggestions for additional content were around partnership working, environmental maintenance, and individuals taking responsibility

The final Promise is attached to this page, along with the consultation report which details all the comments received and our response to them.

If you have any queries, or would like to request a paper copy, please email engagement@northtyneside.gov.uk or call 0191 643 2828.
