Draft Environmental Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour Policy

This consultation has now closed

The outcomes of the consultation will be shared on this website. If you would like an email update on this and other consultations, please sign up to Our North Tyneside Voice

Date of consultation: 10 December to 18 January
Number of responses:
79 completed surveys

This consultation set out the Authority’s approach to investigating and managing anti-social behaviour and environment-related enforcement.

Anti-social behaviour (ASB) and environmental crime, such as flytipping, litter, dog fouling and graffiti, impacts residents and our communities. It affects their quality of life and contributes to perceptions and fear of crime.

The draft policy (attached to this page) was developed by our Housing and Property Service with the help of feedback from tenants on our Estates and Communities Panel, the Big Community Conversation survey 2025, Tenant Satisfaction Measures survey 2024, the tenants’ annual event and the tenant drop-in events.

It highlights North Tyneside Council’s responsibility to maintain a clean and safe environment for all, while recognising that this cannot be achieved without the support of the local community and the need for people to take personal responsibility for their actions.

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey.  The report summarising all the feedback received is attached to this page.

  • 79 responses were received, 31 from council tenants and leaseholders
  • 50 respondents agreed the draft Policy was easy to understand, 12 said it was not
  • Suggestions were made around making some terms clearer, providing an easier to read version and adding more detail around the action the council can take against perpetrators

Your feedback is being incorporated into the final version of the Policy, which will go to the council's Cabinet in spring 2026 for formal approval. We will then publish it on this page.

If you have any queries, or would like to request a paper copy of the consultation report, please email engagement@northtyneside.gov.uk(External link) or call 0191 643 2828.
