North Tyneside Council is inviting residents to help shape the appearance of development in the Borough.

The Council's Planning Policy team is producing a new Design Code and advice for preparation of planning applications for new development. The code will replace North Tyneside's current Design Quality Supplementary Planning Document.

Development can have an effect on everyone in North Tyneside. The Council is keen to ensure new development looks good, is safe, inclusive, accessible, good for the environment and enhances health and well-being of our borough.

Sharing your views on these things to help shape how the Council influences these things is really important.

How to get involved

We have set up a number of ways, via the links below, for you to consider design and let us know your views.

  • A survey where you can give your likes and preferences.
  • A Map where you can identify places or share pictures of your favourite places, buildings, open spaces, or other public features.
  • An ideas board where you can let us know about anything you think is key in helping to achieve good design.
  • A quick poll to find out if you think guidance to achieve "good design" is important.

Privacy and further information

All responses will be dealt with in accordance with our privacy notice.

If you have any questions about this survey or need us to do anything differently to help you take part, including providing this information in another language or format, please contact planning.policy@northtyneside.gov.uk or call (0191) 643 2310.
