The feedback received from residents have helped us set a balanced budget for the next financial year starting in April and have also helped us set a mid term financial plan that takes us to 2029.
Setting a balanced budget has been challenging this year. High demand for our social services supporting children and adults is costing us more than ever but by saving and investing across all areas of the council we plan to meet costs.
We will, as requested by residents make better use of external funding to support services and regeneration of our towns and villages.
We have also committed an extra £2 million next year to fix pavements and roads in poor condition, hearing that this is a high priority for residents.
The budget will also allow more affordable homes to be built and make our estates clearer and safer.
In order to do all this and continue to provide the services and amenities that residents rely on and enjoy we have had to take some difficult decisions, one being to raise council tax by 4.99%. The Government expected us to raise it by this amount and it will raise £7 million.
To help with rises we will be supporting those in need with our local Council Tax Support Scheme and the Tenancy Sustainment Fund which supports council tenants.
