Adult Social Care Strategy

Adult Social Care provides support to people with care and support needs, and those who care for them. In the past year, we supported over 4,000 people in the borough to live safe, included lives.

In common with the rest of the country, North Tyneside’s social care services face challenges. There are significant pressures, driven by:

  • Higher numbers of older people requiring support.

  • Increasing requests for support from working age people, and higher numbers of younger people with very complex needs.

  • Rising numbers of concerns about abuse and neglect.

  • Challenges recruiting and retaining staff.

Despite these challenges, Adult Social Care has a number of strengths, including:

  • A lower than average proportion of the working age population live in residential care.

  • A higher than average proportion of adults with learning disabilities live in their own homes.

  • Strong performance supporting the NHS with speedy discharge.

  • A high proportion of older people return to living at home after a hospital admission with our support.

Adult Social Care’s strategy will set our priorities for 2025-2026, building on our strengths to address our challenges. The ideas in the consultation booklet have been formed through conversations with people with support needs, partner organisations, and our own workers. You can find this in the 'Adult Social Care Strategy Documents' section on this page.

We invite you to give your feedback using the 'Take Survey' link below. We will use the results to finalise our plans for the next two years.

The consultation closes on 17 November 2024.
