Housing and Property Services Vulnerabilities and Reasonable Adjustment Draft Policy
Date of Consultation: 1 July to 3 August 2025 Number of responses: 12completed survey
Summary: A big thank you to everyone who took part. The results are now being considered and we will feed back on You Said We Did Hub when we have the results.
This consultation was on support for council tenants, and residents more widely, who may be classed as 'vulnerable'. This could be due to factors including disability and health, protected characteristics, financial circumstances, relationship breakdown, literacy levels, or lack of skills.
We are committed to ensuring residents with disabilities and /or vulnerabilities are not disadvantaged when accessing our services.
This draft policy sets out how we define vulnerability, identify those who are vulnerable and take action to support them. The policy also defines what a ‘reasonable adjustment’ is, the circumstances they will be made and how they can be requested.
We want to support vulnerable tenants and household members living in North Tyneside Council homes and North Tyneside residents to address the challenges they may face in:
sustaining their tenancy
improving the quality of their homes
accessing and benefiting from our services
We held a focus group last year with several representatives from local voluntary and community groups, to discuss the potential development of this new policy to formalise our approach. This provided valuable insight from organisations who have direct contact every day with those within the borough who may be considered vulnerable, to help shape the policy from the initial stages. Their views have been considered in this draft policy.
We wanted to know if the draft policy is easy to understand or if there was anything missing from it.
The survey closed on 3 August 2025 and the team will now use your feedback to finalise the policy. We will publish an update on this website.
