The National Youth Strategy Consultation was introduced in Spring 2025 giving young people across the UK a chance to have a say in how they want their Youth Services to be shaped. More than 14,000 young people across the country completed the survey, as well as over 400 people taking part in face to face consultations.
How did North Tyneside get involved?
Officers from North Tyneside Council arranged sessions with different educational settings, youth settings and our participation groups, to ensure young people's voices were submitted. 96 young people took part across 9 different sessions, looking at their hopes for the future, their current worries and what one thing could national government change to improve their lives. Feedback was also looked at on a local level, to ensure any common themes could be looked at within North Tyneside. Work was completed around two key themes which came up repeatedly being discrimination and lack of youth spaces in the borough. These themes linked very well with our Young Mayor and Member of Youth Parliament's pledges from 2025-26.
What happens now?
The National Youth Strategy was released toward the end of 2025, outlining a 10 year government plan on what is important to young people, so services can be shaped to their needs. If you would like to find out more about the National Youth Strategy please click here
