Local Plan Consultation Feedback
Initial Draft Local Plan: Consultation Update 10 March 2026
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Initial Draft Local Plan consultation, which closed on 25 February 2026. Your feedback is essential in helping to shape the future of North Tyneside, and we are grateful for the time, interest and contributions provided by residents, community groups, developers, statutory bodies and other stakeholders.
The consultation was widely promoted through the Council’s Engagement Hub, direct notifications to community and residents’ groups, online and media activity, and almost 5,000 letters delivered to homes closest to the Possible Housing Sites. This generated a strong response from across the borough.

- More than 1,700 comments were submitted through the map‑based survey.
- Over 370 email responses were received.

Viewing Responses
You can now view written responses submitted by site promoters and other key organisations and agencies such as National Highways in full from this page. Please note that the information included in these submissions reflect the views of external respondents to the Local Plan, not the views or objectives of the Council. The Council is reviewing all the responses received and will respond to each submission alongside publication of the next draft of the Local Plan later this year.
An early summary of key themes raised about several of the most commented‑on sites is also available.
Before publishing individual responses from residents, we are reviewing all submissions to remove personal information and ensure content is appropriate for public release. These will be added to the Engagement Hub once this process is complete.
What Happens Next
We are currently:
- Collating and reviewing all comments received
- Confirming signatory numbers for each petition
- Continuing technical and evidence‑based work to inform the next draft
Later in 2026, the Council will publish the Publication Draft Local Plan for public consultation. This version will reflect the feedback received so far, along with updated evidence. A Consultation Statement will also be published, explaining how comments have influenced the revised plan.
All consultees—including everyone who responded to this consultation—will be invited to comment before the plan is submitted to Government for independent Examination.
Stay Informed
Information about the Local Plan, including documents, evidence and background material, remains available on the Local Plan Engagement Hub, where further updates will be added throughout the year.
Thank you once again for your continued interest and involvement. Your views are highly valued and will continue to play an important role in shaping the future of North Tyneside.
