The Local Plan guides how planning decisions are made. It sets out where development can happen and what should be protected, such as parks, wildlife areas and conservation areas. It also identifies land that could be used for new homes or businesses, ensuring that growth Is managed in a way that benefits everyone.
The Council is legally required to produce a Local Plan and must follow national government rules. This includes planning enough new homes to meet the current and future needs of residents for good-quality, affordable housing, in line with the housebuilding targets set by the government.
How were young people involved?
Sessions were held with young people across the borough from Youth Council, to high schools and youth provisions, ensuring they had a say in the Local Plan and what was important to them. By looking at development in relation to houses, green spaces, transport and shops, the young people involved can have a direct input into the consultation and ensure that their views about their area are considered.
