North Road and Hopper Street to Station Road and Elton Street East Junction

A safe and attractive route along quieter streets has been identified to direct cyclists onto to ride from the West Street and Rutland Road junction to the town centre.

The proposed route runs from West Street through Hopper Street, North Road, Town Square and David Street to Station Road. The physical changes proposed are limited to signage, road markings, upgraded speed humps and a change in the junction priority between David Street and John Street.

It is proposed to widen the path at the junction of David Street and Station Road to accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists. Cyclists would be directed to Elton Street to a new a signalised junction with Station Road which will help to ease and control traffic movements at this busy junction.

The key improvements from the junction will be:

• A safer, more controlled junction
• Dedicated traffic signals for people cycling
• The ability for people cycling to make left and right turns in a single movement, without having to wait in the middle of the junction
• A reduced risk of collisions between people walking and people cycling
