North Tyneside Council asked to enhance its bid for funding for Segedunum
The local authority is drawing up plans in the hope of securing lottery funding for its World Heritage Site in Wallsend.
Last year, North Tyneside Council submitted a pre-application for around £8m in grant funding to help improve Segedunum Roman Fort and Museum from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF). After consulting residents THE NLHF has invited the authority to enhance its application for the cash with a deadline of May 28.
The authority is drawing up plans to develop its bid in line residents priorities, including focusing on the Emperor Hadrian and his “distinctive character and outlook” alongside fanfare, props and audiovisual equipment as visitors enter the display. Augmented reality has also been touted as a method of enhancing views from the museum’s tower.
Other plans include moving the car and coach park and relocating the entry to Station Road, allowing for the construction of a new paved route. A new ground floor café and exhibition space has also been suggested.
