The proposal aims to transform the main public space in Wallsend Town Centre in line with the vision in the Ambition for Wallsend regeneration plan.
The square is already a key pedestrian route from Station Road and the High Street to the Forum and Community Hub and library. This will be enhanced with new modern paving, new planting and seating to create a greener and more comfortable space to spend time.
The opportunity will be taken to demolish the unused toilet block; this will be replaced with new paving and tree planting. Improvements to the bandstand are also proposed including widening the ramp to make it easier to clean.
It is also proposed to relocate the Grade II listed Market Woman statue to a more prominent position in the square.
