Every area has its own designated neighbourhood housing officer, who you can contact at any time. They are here to support you and are your first point of contact for many aspects of your tenancy:
Visits to new tenants to help them settle in and deal with any queries
Any changes to your tenancy or household details
Home visits to get to know our tenants better, deal with any outstanding repairs or issues, and check if anyone in the household needs any additional support
Checking that homes, gardens and estates are kept in good condition
If you are unsure who your neighbourhood officer is, check the attached spreadsheet. To find your street quickly, use the 'find' tool and type in your street name. You can email the team on neighbourhoodhousing@northtyneside.gov.uk or call 0191 643 6382. You will then be prompted to select one of the following options:
If your address is in or around Wallsend, Howdon, Chirton or Percy Main, press 1
If your address is in or around Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, North Shields or Shiremoor, press 2
If your address is in or around Killingworth, Longbenton, Battle Hill or Dudley, press 3

Tenancy home visits
Neighbourhood housing officers make home visits to help us get to know our tenants better, check the overall condition of the property and see if there are any outstanding issues or repairs. These visits are invaluable in finding out if anyone in the household needs any additional support, which we can help arrange. For example, with health needs, financial concerns, employment and training, or safety at home. Tenants will receive a letter in advance with an appointment time. If it's not convenient for you, please call us to rearrange it using the phone number on your letter.
Watch the video on this page to see one of our officers, Cameron, carrying out a visit at Linda's home.
Estate walkabouts
Your neighbourhood housing officer carries out regular estate walkabouts in your neighbourhood. These are an opportunity for you to ask questions, report any issues and get involved in helping to improve your estate. We want to make sure that the local area looks appealing, is functioning well and that any problems are put right. They aren't just for council tenants, anyone is welcome to join in and have a chat to the team.
The 2026-27 programme is attached to this page, or you can contact us using the email address or phone numbers above. While we have these designated walkabout times, please be assured that our teams are about throughout the year.
The planned walkabouts take into consideration council homes within certain areas and we have officers assigned to those areas. We will still be carrying out unscheduled street inspections if your street is a council managed estate but is not listed in the schedule. (Please note - our programme does not cover walkabouts on private housing estates as our team is responsible for council tenancies). To report environmental or housing issues at any time, visit the North Tyneside Council website or call 0345 2000 101.
