Meet our neighbourhoods team
Every area has its own designated neighbourhood housing officer, who you can contact at any time. They are here to support you and are your first point of contact for many aspects of your tenancy:
- Visits to new tenants to help them settle in and deal with any queries
- Any changes to your tenancy or household details
- Home visits to get to know our tenants better, deal with any outstanding repairs or issues, and check if anyone in the household needs any additional support
- Checking that homes, gardens and estates are kept in good condition
If you are unsure who your neighbourhood officer is, check the attached spreadsheet. To find your street quickly, use the 'find' tool and type in your street name. If you aren’t sure who your Officer is, email us at neighbourhoodhousing@northtyneside.gov.uk or call 0345 2000 102.
Tenancy home visits
Neighbourhood housing officers make home visits to help us get to know our tenants better, check the overall condition of the property and see if there are any outstanding issues or repairs. These visits are invaluable in finding out if anyone in the household needs any additional support, which we can help arrange. For example, with health needs, financial concerns, employment and training, or safety at home. Tenants will receive a letter in advance with an appointment time. If it's not convenient for you, please call us to rearrange it using the phone number on your letter.
Watch the video on this page to see one of our officers, Cameron, carrying out a visit at Linda's home.
Estate walkabouts
Your neighbourhood housing officer carries out regular estate walkabouts in your neighbourhood. These are an opportunity for you to ask questions, report any issues and get involved in helping to improve your estate. We want to make sure that the local area looks appealing, is functioning well and that any problems are put right. There's a video on this page showing Tracy on a walkabout, so you can see the kind of things that are covered.
We're currently working on the walkabouts programme for 2026-27, as soon as it's ready we'll publish it on this page and promote it. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact us using the email address or phone numbers above.
It is important for us to have strong relationships between our tenants and neighbourhood housing officers, and we'd like to encourage tenants to come along and have a chat to the team when they are in your neighbourhood.
The planned walkabouts take into consideration council homes within certain areas and we have officers assigned to those areas. We will still be carrying out unscheduled street inspections if your street is a council managed estate but is not listed in the schedule. (Please note - our programme does not cover walkabouts on private housing estates as our team is responsible for council tenancies). To report environmental or housing issues at any time, visit the North Tyneside Council website or call 0345 2000 101.
