Class bookings at NTC Leisure Centres

Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent consultation about class bookings and attendance. We received a wide range of thoughtful comments, and we’re very grateful for your feedback.

What we heard

  • Most respondents agreed that it’s fair to act when people book a place but don’t attend, as this prevents others from joining fully booked sessions.
  • Many people emphasised the need for flexibility and fairness, recognising that late cancellations sometimes happen for genuine reasons.
  • There was clear support for a small, reasonable charge for “no-shows,” rather than an overly harsh fine.
  • Several helpful suggestions were made around improving communication and ease of cancelling, such as clearer options online or better reminders.

What we’re doing

As a result of your feedback:

  • We will not introduce penalties for late cancellations.
  • However, from the start of December, a £3.00 fee will apply to anyone who books a class but does not attend and does not cancel.
  • This small charge is designed to encourage people to cancel if they can’t make it, freeing up spaces for others on the waiting list.
  • We will continue to show understanding in cases of genuine emergencies or technical issues.

Why this change

Our aim is simple — to make sure as many people as possible can attend the classes they want. Introducing a modest no-show fee helps reduce wasted spaces, while keeping the system fair and flexible for everyone.

What happens next

We’ll be sharing reminders and clear information ahead of the December start date, so everyone has plenty of notice. The policy will be reviewed after the first few months to ensure it’s working well.

Thank you again for your feedback and support in helping us run a fair, accessible, and well-attended class programme.
