Children's Council and school groups have been thinking of a name for the giant fish recycling mascot. The fish, has spent the summer traveling along the coast raising awareness around the importance of recycling and disposing of rubbish. Youth Councillor's have looked through all the wonderful name suggestions and following lots of discussion selected 'Bubbles' put forward by Beacon Hill School Council.
The Children's council have also been exploring recycling in North Tyneside and have made their own fish sculptures from used items (enveloped, cereal boxes and magazines). The children talked about how litter in the community makes places look uncared for.
YouthCouncillors joined the discussion and collected videos and photos of areas they have noticed litter building up. Yesterday Children/YouthCouncillors arranged a litter pick in Percy Main, they separated items as they collected (glass, cans, plastic bottles) ready for recycling.
We have looked at the ways littering can be reported using the map on NTC website and by scanning the QR code on bins to report when overflowing. The young people will be looking at ways to share this with other young people.
